The Stratford High School Band has just been selected to be a representative of the State of South Carolina in a major 2000 national music festival in Washington, D.C. celebrating America's heritage through music. Mr. Jim Haynes was informed of this selection based upon recommendations of state music officials, past achievements and current superior ratings.

The Stratford High School Band will perform in Washington, D.C. from March 16 - 19 in the 2000 National Festival of the States. This prestigious event is an official component of the Washington D.C. Bicentennial in 2000, and is recognized by the District of Columbia, U.S. Navy Memorial Foundation, and the National Park Service.

A complete program of performances, sightseeing, and other cultural activities will be part of the experience for the Stratford High School Band. The Band will perform for enthusiastic audiences consisting of Washington, D.C. residents, tourists and veterans groups.

Washington, D.C. is host to this Music Celebration thoughout the entire year 2000. This national music festival continues a tradition of saluting significant historical events. Similar past Celebrations have honored the 1987 U.S. Constitution Bicentennial, the 1991 Bill of Rights, District of Columbia Bicentennials, the 1994 50th Anniversary of Normandy Commemoration, the 50th Anniversary of the end of World War II, and the 1999 George Washington Bicentennial. Performance venues might include the Lincoln Memorial, Navy Memorial, Mount Vernon, the U.S. Capitol, the Old Post Office Pavilion, U.S. Soldier's and Airmen's Home, the Pentagon and others.

The National Festival of the States is organized by Music Celebrations International of Tempe, Arizona, a professional festival/event organizer with years of both national and international music festival expertise.

The goal of the organizers is to include at least one instrumental and one choral group from each of the fifty States to participate in the National Festival of the States.
